Ana Alcaina

Ana Alcaina graduated in Translation and Interpreting at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and is a freelance translator from English into Spanish. She specialises in genre fiction and has been working for the main Spanish publishing houses since 1997.

She has translated a wide variety of genres, particularly mystery and thriller, YA fantasy, and romance, by such accomplished and different authors as Gillian Flynn, James Baldwin, Nancy Mitford, Emma Donoghue, Sophie Kinsella or P. D. James. She is responsible for the translation into Spanish of the popular YA Fantasy series Artemis Fowl, by Irish author Eoin Colfer. She is also a member of the the group of translators Anuvela ®, with whom she translated other popular and bestselling books by Ken Follett (World Without End, The Century Trilogy), or Frederick Forsyth (The Afghan).

In recent years, she has combined her work as a translator with lectures as an English-Spanish Translation teacher in the Graduate and Undergraduate programs at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting in the UAB.

In addition to individual translations, she is a member of Anuvela ® group of translators. This  initiative has received international attention, and the collective Anuvela ® was invited to present their group work methods at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2007 and at the Salzburg Global Seminar in Salzburg in 2009.
